Glutamate is widely present in animals, plants, microorganisms, and cultured cells. It is not only one of the 20 amino acids that constitute proteins, but also a key molecule in cellular metabolism. In addition, glutamate serves as the most abundant fast excitatory neurotransmitter in the mammalian nervous system, and is also found in various foods and used as a flavor enhancer in the food industry. This kit provides a rapid and sensitive method for the determination of glutamate: Glutamate is specifically dehydrogenated by glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH), and the generated NADH further reacts with a chromogenic reagent to form a yellow product with a characteristic absorbance peak at 450 nm. By measuring the increase in absorbance at this wavelength and referencing a standard curve, the glutamate content in the sample can be precisely calculated.
