Overview

Mitochondrial respiratory chain complex II, also known as succinate-coenzyme Q reductase, is widely present in the mitochondria of animals, plants, microorganisms, and cultured cells. It catalyzes the oxidation of succinate to fumarate, while the prosthetic group FAD is reduced to FADH₂. The latter further reduces oxidized coenzyme Q to generate reduced coenzyme Q, representing a branch pathway of the respiratory electron transport chain. The detection principle of this kit is based on the fact that the catalytic product of mitochondrial respiratory chain complex II, reduced coenzyme Q, can subsequently reduce 2,6-dichlorophenolindophenol (DCIP). DCIP exhibits a characteristic absorption peak at 605 nm. By monitoring the rate of decrease in DCIP absorbance, the activity of this enzyme can be calculated.
