Overview
Cellulose (CLL) is a macromolecular polysaccharide composed of glucose. It is typically bound with hemicellulose, pectin, and lignin, serving as the primary structural component of plant cell walls. Cellulose is an important dietary fiber and is the most widely distributed and abundant polysaccharide in nature. This kit provides a simple, convenient, and rapid method for detecting CLL activity, suitable for plant tissue samples. The principle is that cellulose, a polysaccharide composed of β-glucose residues, decomposes into β-glucose when heated under acidic conditions. β-Glucose is further dehydrated by strong acid to form β-furfural compounds. These β-furfural compounds then condense with anthrone to produce furfural derivatives. The intensity of the resulting color is directly proportional to the cellulose content, allowing for indirect quantitative measurement.
