Experiments on the observation of multipolar neuronal teleology

Summary
This experiment is from the website of Basic Medical Experimental Teaching Center of Guiyang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Operation method
Experiments on morphologic observation of multipolar neurons
Move
1. Coloring: silver-plated
2. Visualization by the naked eye:
The spinal cord is oval in cross section. The gray matter is central, darker, butterfly-shaped, with four projections, two thicker and shorter called the anterior gray matter and two thinner and longer called the posterior gray matter. White matter surrounds the gray matter and is yellowish in color.
3. Low magnification observation:
The white matter is pale yellow in color and is located around the spinal cord, where the nerve fibers are concentrated. The nerve fibers are rounded in size, and the myelin sheaths are dissolved and vacuolated, with black dots as axons, between which are scattered smaller round or oval glial cell nuclei. Identify the anterior and posterior horns of the gray matter. The anterior horn contains many very large cells, dark brown in color, which are the cytosol of multipolar neurons in the anterior horn. The posterior horn has smaller nerve cells.
A small round hole at the gray matter junction between the two sides of the central spinal cord is the central canal.
4. High magnification observation:
The anterior horn multipolar neurons are motor neurons. (Choose a multipolar neuron with many protrusions and a nucleus to observe).
(1) Cytosol: large, polygonal, with several protrusions; the nucleus is located in the center of the cell, large, round, lightly stained, and the cytoplasm is dark brown.
(2) Dendrites: several, with many branches. Dendrites are thick when emanating from the cytosol, gradually thinning, containing nidus.
(3) Axon: only one (not easy to cut, this neuron if not cut, need other neurons to carefully identify), uniform thickness.
Nuclei of small round or oval cells dyed black around the nerve cells are the nuclei of glial cells, and the black fibers interwoven into a network are nerve fibers.
