Vue d’ensemble

Mitochondrial respiratory chain complex III (EC 1.10.2.2), also known as coenzyme Q-cytochrome c reductase, is widely present in the mitochondria of animals, plants, microorganisms, and cultured cells. It is a common component of both the main and branch pathways of the mitochondrial respiratory electron transport chain, responsible for transferring hydrogen from reduced coenzyme Q to cytochrome c, thereby generating reduced cytochrome c. Mitochondrial respiratory chain complex III is a multisubunit membrane protein complex and serves as a fundamental component involved in both photosynthesis and the respiratory electron transport chain. The detection principle of this kit is based on the activity of mitochondrial respiratory chain complex III, which transfers hydrogen from reduced coenzyme Q to cytochrome c, producing reduced cytochrome c. Unlike oxidized cytochrome c, reduced cytochrome c exhibits characteristic light absorption at 550 nm. Therefore, the rate of increase in light absorption at 550 nm reflects the activity of mitochondrial respiratory chain complex III. By measuring the change in absorbance at 550 nm, the activity of mitochondrial respiratory chain complex III in the sample can be calculated.
