Overview
APX (Ascorbate Peroxidase) is one of the important antioxidant enzymes involved in scavenging reactive oxygen species in plants and is also a key enzyme in ascorbic acid metabolism. APX has multiple isoenzymes localized in chloroplasts, the cytosol, mitochondria, peroxisomes, glyoxysomes, as well as in the peroxisomal and thylakoid membranes. APX catalyzes the oxidation of AsA (ascorbic acid) by H₂O₂ and serves as a major consumer of AsA in plants. The activity of APX directly affects the AsA content, and there is a certain negative correlation between APX and AsA.
Assay Principle: APX catalyzes the oxidation of AsA by H₂O₂. The activity of APX is calculated by measuring the rate of AsA oxidation.
