Determination of tissue level metallothionein by cadmium-hemoglobin method

Summary

Metallothionein (MT) is a metal- and sulfur-rich inducible protein, which can be induced by certain metals (Bi, Zn, Cu, etc.), hormones (glucocorticoids), cytotoxic drugs (cisplatin and alkylating agents), and other pathophysiological conditions related to physicochemical stimuli.MT is widely found in almost all tissues of mammalian animals, except connective tissues. MT is widely present in almost all tissues of mammals except connective tissues, and is most abundant in the liver, kidney, pancreas, and intestines, and it has been found that an increase in MT can mediate the development of resistance to alkylating agents and DDP in tumor cells.
