The examination of red blood cell enzyme defects can be performed through tests such as the methemoglobin reduction test, ascorbic acid test, and Heinz body detection. This kit adopts the Schumm method. Its detection principle is based on the fact that, in the presence of sufficient NADPH, methemoglobin can be reduced to ferrous hemoglobin by methemoglobin reductase. When the glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) content in red blood cells is normal, the amount of NADPH generated through the pentose phosphate pathway is sufficient to complete the above reduction reaction. When the G6PD content in red blood cells is insufficient or deficient, the methemoglobin reduction rate slows down, or reduction may even fail, causing methemoglobin to appear brown. This is detected using a spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 635 nm. This kit is intended for research purposes only and is not suitable for clinical diagnosis or other uses.
