The level of pollen viability directly affects the processes of pollination and fertilization and is closely related to plant yield. By measuring pollen viability, we can understand pollen development and determine the morphological and physiological characteristics of sterile pollen. The presence and amount of starch in pollen grains can serve as an indicator of the degree of pollen development; most normal, mature pollen grains are spherical and contain abundant starch, turning blue when stained with I2-KI solution. Poorly developed pollen grains are often malformed and typically lack starch or contain very little, so they either remain unstained or turn yellowish-brown when exposed to I2-KI solution. Based on the staining pattern, pollen viability can be assessed. This product is intended for research use only and is not for use in diagnostic procedures or other purposes.
