Overview
Acid-PEG5-TEMPO is a PEG derivative with a terminal carboxylic acid and TEMPO moiety. The terminal carboxylic acid can be reacted with primary amines in the presence of activators such as EDC and DCC to form stable amide bonds. The hydrophilic PEG linker increases the water solubility of the compound. TEMPO is a stable radical with applications in chemistry and biochemistry. It is used as a radical marker, a structural probe for biological systems in conjunction with electron spin resonance spectroscopy, a reagent in organic synthesis, and as a mediator in controlled radical polymerization. It is commonly used as a catalyst in organic chemistry synthesis for the oxidation of primary alcohols to aldehydes.
