AHMT (4-Amino-3-hydrazino-5-mercapto-1,2,4-triazole) is a highly sensitive chromogenic reagent used for the determination of aldehyde compounds. This product is supplied as a 0.5% ready-to-use aqueous solution. The detection principle is based on the condensation reaction between AHMT and aldehydes under alkaline conditions, followed by oxidation with potassium periodate (KIO₄) to yield a purple-red product, which exhibits a characteristic absorption maximum at 550 nm. By measuring the absorbance at this wavelength, aldehydes such as formaldehyde and acetaldehyde can be accurately quantified. This method offers high sensitivity and strong anti-interference capability, and is widely applied in the colorimetric determination of aldehydes in environmental water samples, indoor air, food products, and biological specimens. The product should be stored at 4°C in a sealed container, protected from light, with a shelf life of 6 months. For research use only; not intended for clinical diagnosis.
