Endogenous peptide secreted by pancreatic β-cells. Potently activates amylin, calcitonin (EC 50 = 0.67 nM), CGRP and adrenomedullin receptors. Potently inhibits insulin-stimulated glucose uptake (IC 50 = 12 pM). Implicated in type II diabetes.
