CM-dextran consists of a dextran backbone substituted with carboxymethyl substituents imparting a polyanionic character to the product. All batches are checked for molecular weight, degree of substitution and loss on drying. Aladdin produce CM-dextrans from 4 kDa to 150 kDa. CM-dextran is supplied as a white powder.
Structure
CM-dextrans are manufactured by reacting selected dextran fractions with an activated carboxymethyl derivative in alkali. This leads to the introduction of O-carboxymethyl groups along the dextran chain. The carboxyl content is approximately 5% which is equivalent to about one CM group for every 5 five glucose units. Higher degrees of substitution may be achieved if required.
Application
CM-dextran can be used as stabilisers for sensitive biopolymers, as non-toxic ingredients in formulations, as reagents for binding cations (inorganic and organic) via carboxyl reactions and more.
