Panoramica
Hephaestin (HP), a homolog of ceruloplasmin, is a recently discovered ferroxidase involved in iron transport. HP belongs to the ferroxidase family and possesses ferroxidase activity, participating in iron metabolism in the body. The expression of HP can be regulated by metal ions such as iron, copper, and zinc. HP catalyzes the oxidation of Fe²⁺ to Fe³⁺ and plays an important role in mediating transmembrane iron transport.
Determination Principle: HP catalyzes the oxidation of Fe²⁺ to Fe³⁺. Fe²⁺ reacts with ferrozine to produce a colored product with a characteristic absorption peak at 560 nm. Ferroxidase activity can be determined by measuring the rate of decrease in Fe²⁺ concentration.
