This product is 2-hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose ether, which is white or quasi white fibrous or granular powder. It is almost insoluble in absolute ethanol, ether or acetone: it swells into a clear or slightly turbid colloidal solution in cold water. Purpose This product is non-ionic etherified cellulose, which is mainly used as film-forming agent for film coating, emulsifier, suspending agent and stabilizer for gels and ointments. Its concentration is generally 2%-10%. The concentration used as adhesive in tablet granulation is generally 1% - 5%.. This product can be used as a thickener for eye drops and artificial tears, and the concentration is generally 0.45% - 1.0%. It can also be used to prevent the generation of coalesced particles or gels to avoid precipitation. Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose is widely used in oral and topical preparations. The low viscosity grade can be used as adhesive for dry or wet granulation, film coating material or plant capsules. The high viscosity grade can be used as a slow and controlled release matrix material for tablets or capsules, which has the effect of delaying drug release.
