Overview

M199, fully named Medium 199, was developed by Morgan et al. in 1950, originally for nutritional studies of chicken embryo fibroblasts. It has since been widely used for the culture of various animal cells, including some non‑mammalian cells. M199 is particularly suitable for culturing non‑transformed cells and is commonly employed in virology, vaccine production, as well as in the culture of rat pancreatic epithelial cells and mouse lens tissues. Compared with other basal media, M199 contains unique components, including adenine, adenosine, hypoxanthine, thymine, and additional vitamins. M199 is available in two balanced salt formulations: Earle's salts for CO₂‑equilibrated environments and Hank's salts for non‑CO₂ environments. This product contains multiple components required for cell culture, including amino acids, vitamins, inorganic salts, etc.; however, it contains no proteins, lipids, or any growth factors. Therefore, this product must be used with serum or serum‑free supplements. Precautions 1. This product has been sterilized by filtration. Aseptic techniques must be observed during handling to prevent contamination. 2. To maintain optimal performance, avoid freeze‑thaw cycles. 3. This product is intended for research or further study purposes only; it is not for diagnostic or therapeutic use.
