Panoramica
Malate synthase (MS, EC 2.3.3.9) is a key enzyme of the glyoxylate cycle and is found in bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and germinating plant seeds.
Malate synthase catalyzes the reaction of acetyl-CoA and glyoxylate to produce malate and CoA. The generated CoA is reducing and reacts with DTNB to form a yellow product, which has a characteristic absorption peak at 412 nm. MS enzyme activity is determined based on this reaction.
Reaction: acetyl-CoA + glyoxylate + H₂O → (S)-malate + CoA
