Nile Red (9-diethylamino-5H-benzo[alpha]-phenoxazine-5-one; molecular formula: C₂₀H₁₈N₂O₂; molecular weight: 318.37) is a lipophilic fluorescent dye that can precisely distinguish intracellular lipids from other storage materials, and is commonly used for detecting lipid content in animal and microbial cells. The Nile Red fluorescence staining method offers advantages including rapidity, simplicity, high sensitivity, low sample requirement, and compatibility with continuous live-cell monitoring. Upon binding to lipids (including wax esters, triacylglycerols, and various fatty acids), it exhibits strong orange-red fluorescence when excited at 543 nm (emission wavelength: 598 nm), and also displays red fluorescence under ultraviolet light. This product is a ready-to-use fluorescence staining solution that has been rigorously sterilized. It enables rapid, sensitive, and reliable quantitative detection of intracellular lipid components in living cells through fluorescence signal generation upon lipid binding. It is suitable for lipid detection in various cell types, including bacterial cells, and can also be used for protein electrophoresis staining. For research use only. Not for other applications.
