Panoramica
Platencin is an antibiotic that is a more potent analogue of Platensimycin , both of which were originally derived from|Streptomyces platensis|. Mechanistic studies show that both compounds inhibit bacterial fatty acid biosynthesis, which is essential for the survival of bacteria. Platencin may have the potential to be more effective on Platensimycin resistant bacteria, because it affects two essential proteins, β-ketoacyl-ACP synthase II (FabF) and III (FabH), as opposed to Platensymycin, which affects only FabF.
This compound belongs to the class of organic compounds known as acylaminobenzoic acid and derivatives. These are derivatives of amino benzoic acid derivatives where the amine group is N-acylated.
