Panoramica
Pectin is present in the cell walls and intercellular layers of plants. It is an important component of plant cells, belonging to carbohydrate derivatives, and is widely distributed in plant fruits, roots, stems, and leaves.
This kit employs the carbazole colorimetric method for determining total pectin content. Specifically, total pectin is hydrolyzed into galacturonic acid in dilute acid. In a sulfuric acid solution, the galacturonic acid undergoes a condensation reaction with carbazole to form a purple-red substance. Spectral scanning shows that this substance has a maximum absorption peak at 530 nm. The color intensity is directly proportional to the total pectin content, thereby allowing the calculation of the total pectin content.
