Wybutosine is a highly modified hypermodified nucleoside found at position 37 of eukaryotic and archaeal tRNA(Phe), adjacent to the anticodon loop. Its structure features a tricyclic core derived from a pyrimido[4,5-b]quinoline ring system with an amino acid side chain. Wybutosine plays a key role in stabilizing codon-anticodon interactions and maintaining translational reading frame fidelity through base-stacking interactions with the ribosome decoding site.
