Operation method

Experiments on the basic properties of enzymes

Principle

Enzymes act as special catalysts that greatly reduce the activation energy of a reaction, thereby greatly accelerating it. This is of extreme physiological importance. In living organisms, certain metabolism as a result of aerobic dehydrogenation results in the production of H2O2, which is toxic to the organism. catalase catalyzes the rapid decomposition of hydrogen peroxide into H2O and O2, so that H2O2 does not accumulate in the body in large quantities. Iron powder is also a catalyst for the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide, but its catalytic efficiency is only 10 billionths of that of catalase.
