Overview

BNN3 is a cell-permeable, caged, photolabile nitric oxide (NO) donor (λ|Em (max)|: ~300nm) which produces two NO molecules per molecule of BNN3 upon irradiation (300-360nm) with a xenon lamp or laser flashlight. BNN3 causes photo-induced vasorelaxation in rat aortic strips and is useful for delivering nitric oxide into intracellular compartments on a microsecond time scale without any cytotoxic effects. BNN3 is stable at a variety of pH levels and its release of NO is not affected by the presence of thiols in biological systems.
