Overview
EMEM (Eagle's Minimum Essential Medium) is a cell culture medium developed by Harry Eagle in 1959. It is specifically designed to meet the basic nutritional requirements of mammalian cells, containing essential components such as amino acids, vitamins, and inorganic salts. Owing to its simple composition and consistent performance, EMEM is widely used in various cell culture experiments, particularly for cell types that do not require highly enriched nutrients. In addition, EMEM is often employed as a basal medium, to which serum or other supplements are added to support the growth of specific cell types.
