La ciclohexanona se utiliza en la preparación de polímeros sintéticos como el nailon 6,6 y el nailon 6. Actúa como disolvente en síntesis orgánica. Sus derivados se utilizan para la síntesis de colorantes, productos químicos de caucho, plastificantes y productos farmacéuticos. Además, interviene en la preparación de la ciclohexanona oxima, que se reorganiza para dar caprolactama en presencia de un catalizador de ácido sulfúrico.
