Biodegradable plastics, widely recognized as promising substitutes for conventional plastics, still face the challenge of microplastic contamination to require in-depth assessments of combined pollution scenarios. This study explored the adsorption of 1-chloronaphthalene (PCN-1) by biodegradable plastics including poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) and polylactic acid (PLA) with polyethylene (PE) as a conventional plastic control in seawater. The maximum adsorption capacity of PCN-1 on PLA/PBAT/PE in seawater reached 131.22/323.59/301.80 μg g −1 . The desorption efficiency of PCN-1 from PLA and PBAT was substantially lower than that from PE, suggesting that biodegradable plastics might pose reduced environmental risks due to low pollutant release. Interaction between PCN-1 and biodegradable plastics could be regulated by pH, which was attributed to the modulation of π-π stacking interactions. Salinity exerted a positive effect on the adsorption capacity of PCN-1 by PLA, PBAT, and PE; the maximum capacities (131.22/323.59/301.80 μg g −1 , respectively) were achieved at a salinity of 30‰. Pseudo-second-order model obtained good fitting on adsorption kinetics of PCN-1 on PLA while PBAT and PE exhibited higher consistency with the pseudo-first-order model. Thermodynamic analysis based on enthalpy (ΔH) and Gibbs free energy (ΔG) changes revealed that PCN-1 adsorption on PLA was an endothermic process, while the adsorption on PBAT and PE was exothermic. Collectively, the capture of PCN-1 by biodegradable plastics is predominantly governed by three key factors: crystallinity of the plastic matrix, π-π interaction between the plastic and PCN-1, and hydrophobic interaction.

A series of novel glass–ceramic/ceramic composites, composed of a low softening ZnO–B 2 O 3 –SiO 2 (ZBS) glass–ceramic and SiO 2 /ZrO 2 ceramics, were fabricated for low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) applications. The effects of the ZrO 2 /SiO 2 mass ratio on sintering behavior, microstructure, crystallization behavior and resultant properties of the ZBS/SiO 2 /ZrO 2 (ZSZ) composites were systematically investigated. The results indicate that the major crystalline phase Zn 2 SiO 4 remained stable with increasing ZrO 2 /SiO 2 mass ratio, while a minor ZrSiO 4 phase precipitated. Variations in the Zn 2 SiO 4 /ZrSiO 4 phase content resulted in an increase in the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) value from 2.75 × 10 –6 /K to 3.81 × 10 –6 /K, alongside a rise in flexural strength from 120.8 MPa to 152.3 MPa. The optimal properties were achieved in the ZSZ composite with a ZrO 2 /SiO 2 mass ratio = 4:5, sintered at 900 °C for 30 min: \({\varepsilon }_{r}\) = 5.52, tan δ = 6.92 × 10 –4 , CTE = 3.81 × 10 –6 /K, flexural strength (152.3 MPa) and excellent compatibility with Ag electrodes.

This study developed a comprehensive strategy to identify and quantify a novel vardenafil analogue, SLX-2101, which was detected as an undeclared adulterant in functional foods. The compound was initially screened and characterized using ultra-performance liquid chromatography–quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC-UV-Q-TOF/MS), and its structure was confirmed via nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and comparison with a custom-synthesized reference standard. A quantitative ultra-performance liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-QqQ/MS) method was established and validated, demonstrating good linearity (1.0–100.0 μg/L, r > 0.997), with a limit of detection of 0.3 μg/kg and a limit of quantification of 1.0 μg/kg. Mean recoveries ranged from 74.2% to 115.8% across various food matrices, with relative standard deviations between 0.4% and 12.5%. Application to 61 commercial samples revealed SLX-2101 in two functional wines marketed for their purported aphrodisiac effects at concentrations of 19.3 mg/kg and 1.3 × 10 3 mg/kg. The validated method enables reliable surveillance of this emerging adulterant, thereby providing a practical solution to address the critical gap left by conventional targeted screening protocols.

Waste-derived magnesia brick powder (WMBP), enriched in magnesium oxide (MgO) and abundant Lewis acid–base surface sites, was employed as a robust heterogeneous catalyst for the catalytic ozonation of methylene blue (MB). Non-linear kinetic fitting demonstrated that the WMBP/O₃ system followed an apparent first-order degradation pathway with a rate constant of 0.2563 ± 0.011 min⁻ 1 , approximately 15-fold higher than that of sole ozonation (0.0165 ± 0.002 min⁻ 1 ). Mineralization was similarly enhanced, with total organic carbon (TOC) decay accelerating from 0.0035 ± 0.0011 min⁻ 1 (single ozonation process) to 0.0693 ± 0.0102 min⁻ 1 (catalytic ozonation process). Electron spin resonance analysis and selective quenching experiments confirmed the simultaneous generation of •OH, O₂•⁻, and 1 O₂, indicating a hybrid radical/non-radical oxidation regime. Ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry characterization revealed a sequential degradation pathway involving N-demethylation, S-oxidation, hydroxylation, and aromatic ring-opening. The WMBP catalyst exhibited excellent long-term stability over ten reuse cycles, maintaining > 90% degradation efficiency through the fourth cycle and > 78% even after the tenth cycle, highlighting its structural resilience and sustained ozone-activation capability. These findings provide new mechanistic insights into MgO-mediated catalytic ozonation and underscore the circular-economy potential of valorizing refractory industrial waste into a high-performance reusable catalyst.

A fast fluorescent dual-emission platform for sensitive detection of sodium dehydroacetate (SDHA) in food is established utilizing bimetallic organic frameworks (Eu@Zr-MOFs). Eu@Zr-MOFs show two fluorescent emissions at 430 nm and 616 nm under single excitation wavelength of 290 nm. Two peaks separated by 180 nm help to eliminate environmental interference and improve the accuracy. In the presence of SDHA, fluorescent intensity at 430 nm and 616 nm shows fluorescent quenching within 1 min. Fluorescent lifetime results show that fluorescent quenching is a static quenching mode. Fluorescent quenching may be ascribed to the diketone structure of SDHA coordinated with Eu 3+ and internal filtering effect. The logarithm of fluorescent intensity (lg I 430 nm * I 616 nm ) has linear relationship with the concentration of SDHA from 0.1 µM to 200 µM with a limit of detection of 31.6 nM. More conveniently, it also achieves visual detection of SDHA through fluorescent color by portable UV lamp and smartphone “color capture” mode. The platform is applied to detect SDHA in fermented and baked food samples. Thus it is an efficient and sensitive fluorescent ratio method for SDHA detection with fast response, high selectivity and accuracy. Graphical

A ternary structure (CuO/CN/LDH) composed of LDH-anchored g-C 3 N 4 nanosheets loaded with CuO nanoparticles was successfully constructed via hydrothermal and co-precipitation methods, and a colorimetric sensing platform for hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) detection was proposed. The engineered nanomaterial demonstrates significantly enhanced oxidase-mimetic activity in the presence of Cr(VI), enabling rapid catalytic oxidation of 3,3’,5,5’-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) with distinct chromogenic response. Mechanistic investigations reveal that Cr(VI) facilitates the conversion of dissolved oxygen into superoxide anions via redox cycling, thereby accelerating TMB oxidation. The sensor exhibits exceptional analytical performance with high accuracy (recoveries of 97.3-103.8%) and sensitivity (detection limit of 25 nM) in aqueous sample analysis. The sensor demonstrated excellent selectivity against common interfering metal ions, as well as high stability (still above 95% for 8 weeks). Notably, an innovative paper-based analytical device was developed in conjunction with smartphone-assisted colorimetric detection, achieving on-site visual quantification of Cr(VI) within 15 min. This integrated system provides a field-deployable solution for environmental monitoring, combining operational simplicity with reliable detection capabilities. This study addresses the main limitations of Cr(VI) sensors, such as their dependence on complex instruments and poor stability of natural enzymes, and demonstrates low detection limits, excellent selectivity, and long-term stability. In addition, the proposed methodology advances current sensing technologies by merging nanomaterial engineering with portable detection platforms, demonstrating significant potential for heavy metal surveillance in water quality management. Based on this, this study also constructed a paper-based colorimetric detection sensor.

Ostwald ripening (OR) and particle migration and coalescence (PMC)-induced sintering of metal nanoparticles remains a major challenge in heterogeneous catalysis. In the methoxycarbonylation of ethylene, noble metals such as Ru and Pd serve as active centers, yet inevitable metal aggregation during the reaction reduces both the number of active sites and catalyst lifetime. Herein, we report a highly efficient Ru catalyst supported on defect-rich TiO 2 with slight carbon coating for ethylene methoxycarbonylation. Systematic characterizations reveal that the thin carbon layer effectively suppresses OR, while appropriate metal–support interactions prevent PMC. The synergistic effect of these features maximizes the exposure of Ru 0 active sites, enhancing catalytic activity and stability. The catalyst achieves a remarkable reaction rate of 13.18 mol/mol Ru /h and a selectivity of 99% toward methyl propionate, outperforming previously reported Ru-based catalysts. Furthermore, the catalyst retains over 90% of its activity after five consecutive cycles. This work provides a new strategy for designing robust and highly active catalysts for heterogeneous ethylene methoxycarbonylation.

Solar steam generation (SSG), as a prominent solution among various seawater desalination technologies, provides an effective way to mitigate the global water resource scarcity issue. However, its large-scale implementation is impeded by intricate preparation techniques and suboptimal efficiency. Furthermore, it also encounters substantial challenges pertaining to salt resistance and durability. In this study, we developed the multi-layered tree-shaped biomimetic loop/plush flax fabrics with variable loop/plush height inspired by the transpiration and evaporation process of natural plants. The flax fabric is constructed by loop layer (LL)/plush layer (PL), plain weave layer (PWL), basket weave layer (BWL), and float layer (FL). The unique LL on the fabric surface was manufactured by employing the double warp beam weaving technology to enlarge the evaporation area. And the evaporation area of the fabric can be further enlarged by cutting the loops and loosening the twist of the yarns. Besides, the evaporation performance of the flax fabric was further enhanced by in-situ polymerization of the photothermal material (polydopamine-polypyrrole (PDA-PPy)) on the surface of the fabric. The hierarchical biomimetic structure of the loop/plush flax fabrics provides the continuous water transfer pathway and effectively controlled the water supply to the photothermal conversion interface. Among which, the loop flax fabric with higher loop height (HLTBFF-PDA-PPy) exhibited a evaporation rate of 1.51 kg m −2 h −1 with the evaporation efficiency up to 97.2% under one sun irradiation. This biomimetic structured fabric SSG exhibited a biomimetic-derived structure, enhanced evaporation performance, reliable salt-rejecting capability, and satisfactory long-term durability. This design offers potential support for advancing the large-scale application of water purification and seawater desalination technologies, providing a potential approach to addressing global water scarcity challenges and maintaining promising prospects in the field of SSG technology.

Ammonia nitrogen (NH₃-N) serves as a critical water quality indicator, with excessive levels posing risks to human health. Conventional detection methods like Nessler’s reagent and salicylate colorimetry suffer from toxic byproduct generation and operational complexity. Ammonium ion-selective electrodes (NH 4 + -ISEs) offer advantages such as reagent-free and real-time monitoring. However, during practical detection, they are susceptible to interference from unknown conditions (primarily including pH value, temperature, and potassium ions) in complex aqueous environments. In this work, we developed an all-solid-state ammonium ion-selective electrode (ASS-NH 4 + -ISE), and eliminated the aforementioned interferences through multi-sensor collaborative detection and parameter compensation. The electrode is characterized by a hydrophobic polyaniline (PANI) solid contact layer doped with perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), whose hydrophobicity can effectively suppress the formation of a water layer. The electrode exhibited a Nernstian slope of 58.57 mV/dec, a limit of detection (LOD) of 2.95 µM, meeting requirements for drinking water and seawater monitoring. Furthermore, by incorporating potassium ion-selective electrode (K⁺-ISE) calibration, pH compensation, and temperature coefficient correction, accurate NH₃-N quantification under diverse conditions was achieved. We tested the ammonia nitrogen concentration in actual water samples under different interference conditions, and the recovery rate ranged from 98.1% to 105.1%, which verified the effectiveness of the system for real-time monitoring of ammonia nitrogen in complex aquatic environments. In this study, we integrated a hydrophobic solid SC layer with a multi-parameter (K⁺/pH/temperature) compensation strategy, enabling reagent-free, real-time monitoring of NH₃-N in complex water bodies without any pretreatment. This approach overcomes the limitations of previous ISEs.

Antibacterial carbon dots (CDs) were synthesized from Tieguanyin tea to expand the functional applications of tea resources. The morphological, structural, and chemical properties of the CDs were systematically characterized by TEM, FT-IR, and XPS. These analyses confirmed that the CDs possess a well-defined graphite-like lattice and surface functional groups essential for interacting with bacterial cells. Notably, the tea-derived CDs exhibited potent antibacterial activity against clinically relevant drug-resistant pathogens, effectively overcoming existing resistance mechanisms. They showed strong inhibitory effects against S. aureus (MIC = 1.00 mg/mL) and E. coli (MIC = 1.20 mg/mL). The antimicrobial mechanism is attributed to the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) under illumination and electrostatic disruption of bacterial membranes driven by the cationic surface charge of the CDs. This study demonstrates the potential of tea as a promising platform for designing sustainable antibacterial nanomaterials, offering new insights into the integrated valorization of biomass resources and the mitigation of antibiotic resistance.
