Aplicación:
Guilbert e Iscove demostraron que las células precursoras de eritrocitos y macrófagos podían cultivarse en un medio libre de suero totalmente definido y suplementado con albúmina, transferrina, lecitina y selenio. Este medio es una modificación del Dulbecco's Modified Eagle′s Medium (DME) que contiene selenio, aminoácidos y vitaminas adicionales, piruvato sódico, tampón HEPES y nitrato potásico en lugar de nitrato férrico.
