Panoramica

Sodium sulfite is a water-soluble inorganic salt commonly used as a reducing agent. It's also used in sulfonation and sulfomethylation reactions. Additionally, it serves as a bleaching agent, desulfurizer, and dechlorinating agent in the textile industry. In water treatment, Na2SO3 is employed as an oxygen and free chlorine remover. Sodium sulfite participates in the purification and separation of aldehydes and ketones by forming adducts with them. Other uses include the production of sodium thiosulfate, detergents, and dyes.
Applications
Sodium sulfite can be used as a reducing agent for the hydroxylation of arylboronic acids and arylboronates to corresponding phenols. In the conversion of α-amino alcohol methanesulfonate hydrochloride to sodium α-amino sulfonate. As a SO2 precursor for the synthesis of DABCO(SO2)2, abbreviated as DABSO.
