Overview

Basic Fuchsin, with the molecular formula C₂₀H₂₀ClN₃ and a molecular weight of 337.85, has a CAS number of 632-99-5. It is a basic dye used for tissue staining and in the preparation of Schiff's reagent. It appears as a dark red powder or crystalline substance and is soluble in water (solubility 1%) and ethanol (solubility 8%).

Basic fuchsin is widely used in biological slide preparation. It can stain collagen fibers, elastic fibers, eosinophilic granules, and the nuclear material of central nervous tissue. In botanical slide preparation, it can stain lignified cell walls of vascular plants and can also serve as a whole-mount stain for protococci and charophytes. In bacteriological preparations, it is often used to identify Mycobacterium tuberculosis. In the Feulgen reaction, it is used as a histochemical reagent to detect deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA).

Basic Fuchsin Ethanol Solution (5%) is primarily composed of basic fuchsin and ethanol, prepared through multiple dissolution and purification processes. This solution is generally used in combination with phenol for acid-fast staining (mainly for the detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis) and is typically not used alone. This product is intended for scientific research experiments only and must not be used for clinical diagnosis, food testing, or other non-research purposes.

Operating Steps (For Reference Only)

1. Perform operations according to the specific requirements of the experiment. This product is rarely used alone.

2. When used alone, it is generally diluted to 0.25–0.5%.

Precautions

For your safety and health, please wear a lab coat and disposable gloves during operation.
