Operation method
Grasping and immobilization experiments in rabbits
Materials and Instruments
domestic rabbit Move Domestic rabbits are easy to tame and generally do not bite, but have sharp paws. When grasping, remember not to grab the rabbit's ears, waist or limbs strongly. When the rabbit is quiet inside the cage, open the cage door, grab the neck coat and skin with your right hand, gently lift the animal, pull the rabbit to the cage door with its head facing outward, and then quickly lift the rabbit's hips with your left hand to give the rabbit a sense of comfort and security (Figure 1). ). As required by the experiment, immobilization by hand, rabbit table or rabbit box can be taken. (1) Hand immobilization: If the drug has to be administered orally, the rabbit should be seated on a chair and grasped the skin on the back of the neck with one hand, while the other hand grasps the two hind limbs and holds them between the thighs. Hold the lower part of the rabbit by the thighs, and immobilize the rabbit by grasping the two forelimbs with the empty hand. The hand that grasps the back of the neck and pinches the two ears at the same time to prevent the head from moving can be operated. (2) Fixation on the rabbit table: If cervical, thoracic or abdominal surgery is required, or if respiration and blood pressure need to be observed, the limbs should be tied after anesthesia (the hind limbs should be tied above the ankle joints, and the forelimbs should be tied above the wrist joints), and then the rabbit should be fixed on the rabbit table in the supine position (Fig. 2). ( 3 ) Rabbit box fixation: If only marginal ear vein injection or blood sampling is required, a rabbit box can be used for fixation (Figure 3).
