Hydroxyl radicals (OH⁻), as a key member of the reactive oxygen species (ROS) family, possess extremely strong oxidative capacity and serve as one of the critical indicators for assessing oxidative stress levels in living organisms. This product is specifically designed for the high-sensitivity detection of hydroxyl radical content in various biological samples, with a broad range of applications including precise analysis of animal and plant tissues, microorganisms (e.g., bacteria), cultured cells, serum/plasma, and various liquid samples. The detection principle of this kit is based on the unique oxidative properties of hydroxyl radicals: In the reaction system, 2-deoxyribose acts as a specific substrate and can be efficiently oxidized by OH⁻ to generate malondialdehyde analogues. This product then undergoes a specific condensation reaction with thiobarbituric acid (TBA), forming a stable pink compound with a maximum absorption peak at 532 nm. By measuring the absorbance of this colored product at 532 nm, a quantitative relationship with the hydroxyl radical content can be established, ultimately allowing for the calculation of the hydroxyl radical concentration in the sample.
