Application

Sodium tetraborate, also known as borax(Na 2 B 4 O 7 ), can be employed as a catalyst: In the chemoselective oxidation of alkyl and aryl sulfides to sulfoxides and sulfones using H 2 O 2 as the oxidant. In the synthesis of pyridines, dienes, anilines, and dihydropyrano[3,2- c ]chromenes via Knoevenagel condensation and Michael addition pathway. In thiolysis of 1,2-epoxides to β-hydroxy sulfides.
