Overview
Chitin is primarily found in the exoskeletons of crustaceans such as shrimp and crabs, insects, and other arthropods, in the organs of mollusks (e.g., squid cartilage), and in the cell walls of fungi. Chitinase (EC 3.2.1.14) catalyzes the hydrolysis of chitin and plays a role in defending against fungal invasion, making it a key focus in research on antifungal treatments. This product can be used to detect biological samples such as animal tissues, fungi, and liquids. In this assay kit, soil chitinase hydrolyzes chitin to produce N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, which further reacts with DNS reagent to form a reddish-brown compound. This compound has a characteristic absorption peak at 540 nm, and the rate of increase in absorbance reflects the activity of soil chitinase.
