Overview
Acridine Orange (AO) is a membrane-permeable metachromatic dye that binds DNA (green, 530 nm) via intercalation and RNA (orange-red, 640 nm) via electrostatic attraction. This product, consisting of AO Stain and AO Stain Buffer, is used for apoptosis detection: normal cells show uniform green/yellow-green nuclei; apoptotic cells show condensed or fragmented yellow-green fluorescence; necrotic cells show diminished fluorescence. AO is often combined with EB to distinguish viable, apoptotic, and necrotic cells. For research use only, not for clinical diagnosis.
