Insulin promotes the uptake of glucose and amino acids, lipogenesis, intracellular transport, as well as the synthesis of proteins and nucleic acids. Transferrin is an iron carrier and helps reduce the toxic levels of oxygen free radicals and peroxides. Selenium (provided in the form of sodium selenite) is a cofactor for glutathione peroxidase and other proteins, and acts as an antioxidant in culture media. This product is for scientific research and production use, and is applied to the in vitro culture of tissues and cells.
Instructions for Use
Add to the culture medium at a final concentration of 1% (v/v).
Application
Insulin-Transferrin-Selenium (ITS-G) serves as a basal medium supplement to reduce the dosage of fetal bovine serum (FBS) required for cell culture. ITS-G solution is commonly used in combination with 2–4% FBS.
Precautions
