el ácido 4-metoxifenilacético pertenece a la clase de los ácidos aril alcanoicos, con un amplio espectro de aplicaciones, que incluye su papel como intermediario en la química orgánica sintética, material de construcción para la producción de una variedad de medicamentos esenciales, aditivo en la fabricación de tintes índigo no sustituidos e inhibidor de la corrosión del aluminio en soluciones ácidas y alcalinas. Es un análogo estructural del ácido 2-(4-metoxifenoxi)propanoico, presente en los productos del cacao

el ácido 4-metoxifenilacético puede utilizarse:

-Para preparar 4-metoxifenilacetato de metilo por esterificación con carbonato de dimetilo utilizando un catalizador mesoporoso de circonio sulfatado.

-Como ligando para sintetizar complejos metálicos dinucleares de carboxilato de galio (III) y fenilestaño (IV) farmacológicamente importantes.

-Como reactivo para sintetizar estilbenos hidroxilados (E) reaccionando con benzaldehídos sustituidos mediante la reacción de Perkin.
