All-trans-retinyl stearate is a lipid-soluble derivative of vitamin A that is utilized in cell culture experiments for exploring vitamin A′s impact on cell growth and development. Following intestinal absorption, it is transported to the liver, where it is transformed into retinol and ultimately retinoic acid. Subsequently, retinoic acid is transported to target cells and interacts with nuclear receptors, regulating gene expression. This is the mechanism by which vitamin A affects cell growth and development.
