Descripción general

Vitamin C (also written as Vitamin C or Ascorbic Acid), also known as L-Ascorbic Acid, is a water-soluble vitamin. Dietary vitamin C is absorbed in the upper small intestine of the human body. After absorption, it distributes throughout all water-soluble compartments in the body. The metabolically active pool of vitamin C in a healthy adult contains approximately 1500 mg of the vitamin, with a maximum storage capacity peaking at 3000 mg.Under normal physiological conditions, the majority of vitamin C is metabolized and decomposed into oxalic acid in vivo, or conjugated with sulfuric acid to form ascorbate-2-sulfate for urinary excretion. A small fraction is directly eliminated from the body via urine.
