Ceftizoxime, a third-generation cephalosporin effective against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, binds penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) to inhibit the bacterial cell wall synthesis. It rather resembles cefotaxime in its properties but is not subject to metabolism.
