Descripción general
Ergosterol peroxide, Ergosterol derivative, is a sterol found in edible or medicinal mushrooms. Ergosterol peroxide has anti-inflammatory, antitumor, and trypanocidal activity. Ergosterol peroxide suppresses LPS-induced phosphorylation of p38 MAPK, ERK MAPK, and JNK MAPK. Ergosterol peroxide suppresses LPS-induced DNA-binding activity of NF-κB p65 and C/EBPβ. Ergosterol peroxide suppresses LPS-induced TNF-α secretion and IL-1α/β expression. Ergosterol peroxide exerts cytostatic effects on cancer cells, increases intracellular ROS, induces CDKN1A expression, suppresses STAT1 expression, and induces apoptosis. Ergosterol peroxide disrupts Trypanosoma cruzi parasite membranes, shows trypanocidal activity. Ergosterol peroxide can be used for the research of leukemia, inflammatory responses and Chagas' disease
