Principle

Mice are relatively docile, generally do not bite, and are relatively easy to grasp and secure. Usually, the right hand lifts the tail of the mouse and puts it on the cover of the mouse cage or other rough surfaces. When the mouse is struggling and crawling forward, the thumb and forefinger of the left hand pinch the skin of its ears and neck, and then the mouse is placed in the palm of the left hand, and the ring finger and the pinky finger clip the skin of its back and tail, so as to fix the mouse completely. For special experiments, such as tail vein injections, special immobilization devices can be used for immobilization, such as tail vein injection racks or thick glass test tubes. For surgical or cardiac blood sampling, mice should be anesthetized before operation, and for anatomical experiments, mice must be painlessly executed before operation.

Generally, tail vein injection is used, and there are three rat tail veins, one on each side and one on the dorsal side, and the left and right tail veins are easier to fix and should be preferred. Before injection, the animal is fixed in a rat tube or glass cover, so that the rat tail is exposed, immersed in 45 ℃ ~ 50 ℃ hot water, or wiped with alcohol, so that the blood vessels are dilated. Use the thumb and forefinger to pinch the root of the tail, and then use the ring finger and little finger to clamp the tail end part, use the middle finger to hold up the tail from underneath to fix it, the right hand holds the syringe with a fine needle of No. 4, and enter the needle from the lower 1/4 of the tail, if the needle is indeed in the vein, then the injection will not be obstructed, or else the local whiteness and bulging, and the needle should be withdrawn and then moved to the anterior venous part to be re-punctured.

Caveat

Warm it with hot water or a hot towel to dilate the vein; use an appropriate needle, the thinner the better; inject it closer to the upper part of the tail, where the blood vessels are larger. Wipe with alcohol or hot water; when wiping, the tail can be pulled hard on the table. The injected state is that the tail is white, and two red veins are clearly visible immediately on either side of the white tailbone.

Common Problems

1. Drugs should not be administered orally, subcutaneously or intramuscularly, but may be administered intravenously or by intravenous infusion when rapid effects are required.


2. The drug is not suitable for other injection methods because of its high concentration, irritation and quantity.


3. For diagnostic and experimental examinations, drugs are injected intravenously, such as X-ray films of liver, kidney and gallbladder.


4. Infusion and blood transfusion.


5. For intravenous nutrition therapy.
