Descripción general

A common saturated fatty acid compound. 

Dodecanoic acid has been used as a reagent to synthesize MnFe2O4 magnetic nanoparticles by seed mediated growth method. It can undergo esterification with 2-ethylhexanol in the presence of sulfated zirconia catalyst to form 2-ethylhexanoldodecanoate, a biodiesel.

Lauric Acid, a 12 carbon saturated fatty acid, has been shown to be incorporated into rat hepatocytes at a higher preference to other cellular lipids. Other murine studies have suggested that this compound is a substrate for acylation of certain proteins. Saturated fatty acids have been reported to be essential for biological activities of lipopolysaccharides and have demonstrated the ability to induce expression of COX-2 and NFκB (nuclear factor κB) activation. Lauric Acid is a substrate of CYP4A11.
