Application
Molybdenum pentachloride is employed as a brazing and soldering flux for monel, tungsten alloys and copper. It has been proven to be an efficient catalyst for the chlorination of aromatic rings and oxidative coupling reactions. It is a strong oxidizing agent. In the Friedel-Craft reaction, molybdenum pentachloride is used as a good lewis acid. Molybdenum pentachloride is used to prepare molybdenum by vapor deposition method.
