La R-Ficoeritrina o R-PE es una sonda fluorescente perteneciente al grupo de las ficobiliproteínas obtenidas de macroalgas. La R-ficoeritrina (R-PE) es una proteína que actúa como pigmento accesorio fotosintético en las algas rojas (Rhodophyta). Es una proteína oligomérica de 240 kDa, con 6 subunidades α (aproximadamente 20 kDa), 6 β (aproximadamente 20 kDa) y 1 γ (aproximadamente 30 kDa). Las ficobiliproteínas son proteínas hidrosolubles captadoras de luz con una elevada propiedad fluorescente.
Aplicación:
La R-ficoeritrina (R-PE) es útil en el laboratorio como indicador fluorescente de la presencia de cianobacterias y en diversas aplicaciones de inmunofluorescencia. La R-PE es una fluorosonda útil en diversos procedimientos electroforéticos. Las proteínas R-ficoeritrina (R-PE) detectan iones de mercurio en muestras de suelos y aguas subterráneas. La ficoeritrina se ha utilizado ampliamente en alimentación, cosmética, inmunodiagnóstico y reactivos analíticos.
