Descripción general

El tetratetracontano es un alcano de cadena larga. Es el principal constituyente de los aceites esenciales de Euphorbia macroclada. La coadsorción de tetratetracontano y [Na(H2O)P5W30O110] da lugar a grupos aislados de surfactantes encapsulados en una capa tampón de tetratetracontano, que se determinó mediante microscopía de efecto túnel. Se ha descrito la degradación termooxidativa del tetratetracontano.
El tetratetracontano puede utilizarse en una capa de pasivación en transistores de efecto de campo de cobre-ftalocianina para mejorar la movilidad de los portadores de carga. Puede utilizarse para modificar el sistema de electrones de superficie cuasi bidimensional en Au(111), que se investigó mediante espectroscopia de fotoemisión de ángulo resuelto.
