Urine is produced by the kidneys and serves as the primary excretion route for metabolic end products. It contains small amounts of cellular components such as leukocytes, erythrocytes, and epithelial cells, which can be used as samples for DNA extraction in molecular biology assays. However, components in urine such as urea and uric acid can easily degrade nucleic acids. Furthermore, storage at room temperature promotes microbial growth, and nucleases secreted by these microorganisms can cause DNA fragmentation and degradation, directly impacting the quality and yield of DNA extraction.
This product efficiently and stably protects DNA in urine. Collected urine can be mixed directly with the preservation solution without the need for immediate freezing. The preservation effect at room temperature is comparable to that of low-temperature freezing, making it suitable for sample collection in any scenario and for long-distance sample transportation.
Product Features
Easy to Use: Simply mix the urine sample with this product according to the specified ratio.
Long-Term Preservation: Stably preserves urine and its DNA for up to 6 months at 4–25°C, particularly suitable for field sampling.
High DNA Integrity: Suitable for total DNA extraction; the obtained DNA can be used in molecular biology experiments such as enzyme digestion, electrophoresis, and PCR.
Instructions
Mix the urine sample thoroughly with this product at a volume ratio of 10:1 (e.g., add 10 mL of preservation solution to 100 mL of urine).
Store the mixed sample protected from light at room temperature until use.
Extract DNA using a standard DNA extraction method. The extracted DNA can be used for molecular biology experiments such as enzyme digestion, electrophoresis, Southern blot hybridization, and PCR.
For long-term low-temperature storage, the urine sample mixed with the preservation solution can be stored directly at -80°C.
