Alkaloids are nitrogen-containing organic compounds found in living organisms, with the majority present in plants. To date, over 3,000 types have been isolated, nearly one hundred of which exhibit potent physiological activity and are widely used in clinical medicine.
This kit utilizes the reaction of alkaloids with bromocresol green to form a yellow product, which has a characteristic absorption peak at 415 nm. The total alkaloid content in the sample is determined by measuring the increase in absorbance at this wavelength.
