Natural pectin substances exist widely in the fruits, roots, stems, and leaves of plants in the forms of protopectin, pectin, and pectic acid. They are components of the cell wall, accompanying cellulose, and constitute the intercellular adhesive layer between adjacent cells, firmly bonding plant tissue cells together. Pectinase is a general term for a class of enzymes that decompose pectin substances. Essentially, they are polygalacturonate hydrolases, including four main types: protopectinase, pectinesterase, polygalacturonase, and pectin lyase. They are widely found in plant fruits and microorganisms and are primarily used in the food, brewing, environmental protection, pharmaceutical, textile, and daily chemical industries. The detection principle of this kit is as follows: Pectinase hydrolyzes pectin to produce β-galacturonic acid, which reacts with dinitrosalicylic acid (DNS) to form a colored compound. The color intensity of this compound is proportional to the concentration of galacturonic acid. The absorbance is measured at 540 nm using a microplate reader. By comparing with a standard curve, the pectinase activity in the sample is calculated. This kit is primarily used for the quantitative determination of pectinase activity in plant tissues or fruits. The darker the reaction color and the higher the absorbance, the stronger the pectinase activity. This product is for research use only and is not intended for use in diagnostic procedures.
