Overview
LTB is a dihydroxy fatty acid derived from arachidonic acid through the 5-lipoxygenase pathway.1-3 itpromotes a number of leukocyte functions, including, aggregation, stimulation of ion fluxes, enhancementof lysosomal enzyme release, superoxide anion production, chemotaxis, and chemokinesis. in subnanomolarranges (3.9 x 10-10 M), LTB, causes chemotaxis and chemokinesis in human polymorphonuclear leukocytes. At higher concentrations, (1.0 x 10-7 ), LTB, leads to neutrophil aggregation and degranulation as well assuperoxide anion production.

Biochemical and Physiological Mechanisms
Potent chemoattractant (EC 50 = 300 nM). Also acts as a leukotriene B 4 , BLT 1 and BLT 2 receptor agonist (K d values are 1.2 and 23 nM, respectively). A lipid derivative of arachidonic acid. Proinflammatory mediator in vivo .

Note
Wherever possible, you should prepare and use solutions on the same day. However, if you need to make up stock solutions in advance, we recommend that you store the solution as aliquots in tightly sealed vials at -80°C. Generally, these will be useable for up to one month. Before use, and prior to opening the vial we recommend that you allow your product to equilibrate to room temperature for at least 1 hour. This compound belongs to the class of organic compounds known as leukotrienes. These are eicosanoids containing a hydroxyl group attached to the aliphatic chain of an arachidonic acid. Leukotrienes have four double bonds, three (and only three) of which are conjugated.
