Vue d’ensemble

Nitrite Reductase (NiR) is an enzyme capable of catalyzing the reduction of nitrite. It is widely present in microorganisms and plants and serves as a key enzyme in the natural nitrogen cycle. NiR can degrade nitrite into NO or NH₃, thereby reducing the accumulation of nitrite nitrogen in the environment and mitigating the toxic effects caused by nitrite buildup on organisms. Assay Principle: Nitrite reductase reduces NO₂⁻ to NO, leading to a decrease in NO₂⁻ available for diazotization to form a purple-red compound. Thus, the change in absorbance at 540 nm reflects the activity of nitrite reductase.
